Tim recently retired after a 35-year career in the fire service. Beginning as a volunteer firefighter, moving through positions of increasing responsibility and culminating as Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Management in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada’s fifth largest city, Tim is a highly regarded, respected leader in the Fire Service.
Tim has gained extensive experience and skills working in a number of various size and types of fire departments, serving as Chief in Whitchurch-Stouffville, the City of Kitchener, and City of Mississauga. His 20 years in Fire leadership and management have allowed Tim to focus on risk analysis and mitigation efforts combining all areas of the fire service. Innovation and refocusing on education and enforcement has ensured the safety of citizens. Always understanding the delicate balance of public safety combined with fiscal responsibility has been first and foremost in Tim’s mind.
Chief Beckett is a Certified Municipal Manager – CMM III Fire Service Executive, has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration from Ryerson University, a diploma in Fire Protection Technology from the Ontario Fire College, and the AMCTO Certificate in Municipal Administration. He is also the proud recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the federal Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal, and the Ontario Fire Service Long Service Medal.
During his latter years in Mississauga, Tim was intimately involved in the development of an industry changing comprehensive community risk analysis and risk mitigation plan. This resulted in a robust 5-year Master Plan for Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services. Upon retirement, Tim brought his varied expertise to the consulting spectrum and is the Founder/ Principal of Tim Beckett Consulting Services. Work has included as an Assessor in the Dubai Government Excellence Program review of their Civil Defense Agency (Fire Services and Emergency Management).
Tim is a Peer Review Assessor with the Commission on Fire Service Accreditation, a Past President and Lifetime Member of the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs, as well as a past Board Member of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs. His community involvement includes presently serving as President of the Kitchener/Waterloo Oktoberfest Board of Directors.
